Go To Sleep!

I have written many times about the troubles we have with getting the toddler to sleep. She has been having terrors about being left alone in her room and going to sleep. She’s also waking in the middle of the night and having trouble going back to sleep. If there’s a thunder storm, we’re guaranteed to have her awake and wanting to sleep in our bed.

We just don’t know what to do. I bought some children’s books on thunder to help Jessie with overcoming her fear, but she mindlessly ripped them to shreds along with one of her Fancy Nancy books. We were able to read each new book only once before we had to throw them away.

My mom learned about a book that shot to number one at Amazon.com before it had been published. Word of mouth demand was so strong for this book that the publication date was pushed up. Without knowing anything more about then book than what she read at Amazon, Mom pre-ordered the book for us. I could not wait for it to arrive.

The book is by Adam Mansbach. It’s written like a children’s bedtime story but it is definitely not written for children. The text and title are profane and hilariously funny. I read about it online. I listened to Samuel L Jackson read it aloud on YouTube and was anxious to get our copy.

The book is the perfect thing to lift the mood of parents stressed out by their non-sleeping children. The artwork is beautiful. The story is good. The day after we received our book we had a bad night. I was at the end of my rope and decided to read the book to Jessie. I edited for content and Chris and I laughed ourselves silly. Jessie still didn’t like going to bed, but we felt a bit better.
