Have you ever wondered how you be used by God? Sometimes we hear people say God couldn’t use me. I’m not clever enough or strong enough or good enough or powerful or able to talk well enough to be used by God or I’m too old.
As a matter of fact that last one was one of the excuses Moses threw back at God, when God called him to go back to Egypt and lead his people out, Genesis 6:30.
I’ve been reading ‘Living Water’ by Brother Yun. Brother Yun is a Chinese preacher and evangelist who has spent year in prison for his faith and who has suffered persecution. Yet he continues to teach and preach and spread the message of the gospel. At the same time as suffering hardship for the gospel he has also seen many miracles and many turning to Christ. This is what he has to say on the subject of being used by God. ‘If you want to be a person whom God uses, it is vital for you to have a deep revelation of God’s sovereignty and authority.’
Notice he does not say you must be bold, or confident, or clever or educated. We are simply called to stand up for Jesus and to face the enemy. “When you face the enemy, however you must not trust in your own power and wisdom, or you will be doomed to failure.’We are not called to go into a situation or an area of ministry trusting in our own abilities but trusting in God’s ability to teach and enable us to do that He has called and chosen us to do. God never calls without he also enables.
Some of the first disciples were not powerful, educated men. Several were fishermen. But they were committed to Jesus and doing what He had called them to do. Therefore they were able to do the works because they trusted in God and were enabled by the Holy Spirit to powerfully preach.
Look at the effect of Peter’s message to the people in Acts 3 and Acts 4. These men chosen by Jesus and enabled by the Holy Spirit changed the world. We can too if we trust in God and are obedient to His calling and allow Him to use us.
