Gospel Centered Ways to Strengthen Your Marriage

It is important to take the time to strengthen your marriage, so that your family can remain strong. If you and your spouse have a happy marriage this will lead to a happier family. Your children will feel more secure in their family relationships and confident in their family security. The church has instructed us on the importance of strengthening this relationship. Here are five ways to keep the relationship strong.

1- You should pray together. It is important to remember to have couple prayer in the morning and in the evening. This is a time when you can pray for the welfare of each family member. It also helps to pray for each other. Praying together is difficult when you are angry at each other, and this can be a time to resolve any differences that occurred during the day.

2- Take the time to attend the temple together. This is a great opportunity to spend time in a peaceful place together and contemplating the decisions and problems that you may be facing. I know several couples that participate in sealings on their anniversaries so that they can remember the sacred covenants that they made when they were sealed together in the temple.

3- Date each other. Church leaders have requested that we set aside Friday nights as date night in the church. It is important to still court each other during marriage. If you do not spend this time together you will slowly grow apart. This time every week will remind you why you chose to spend your life with this person. The occasional weekend get away is also a good idea.

4- Respect each other. This can be demonstrated in the way that you treat each other in front of your children. If you truly respect your spouse, you will not constantly complain about his actions to others. You will also respect her feelings on certain issues.

5- Express your love to each other. This can be as simple as the words I love you. It can also be getting up early to see your spouse off to work. It can be bringing flowers home one day or cooking a special meal for your spouse. It may be offering a shoulder to cry on.
