Creating a gift for someone always make it more special that just buying something at the store. This is especially true when it comes to creating a gift for grandparents. For Christmas past month, I created a grandkids album for the grandparents. I would like to share how I made the album and share a few tips that I’ve learned through the process.
The structure. This album is organized by year. It starts with 2000. There was only one grandchild in 2000 and 2001, so those sections are each only one page. Each child is featured on one layout for each year. I included one picture, the age the child turned that year and then listed a few interesting facts about that child for that year.
The album. I used a Scrapworks Bay Box 6 X 8 album. These albums are beautiful. The album is actually a leather box with the album cover as a lid. It is all one piece and unsnaps to open and reveal the pages inside. This size was perfect for displaying a 4 X 6 picture, an embellishment and a few facts about the child that year. It is a 3-ring binder, which will make it easy to add pages when needed.
The layouts. Each of the layouts was created with paper that I felt represented that child from that year. I did not want to create the album in all coordinating paper because I plan on adding to the album each year and I did not want to choose a line of paper that would eventually be discontinued. Plus, it was more fun to get to use a variety of product and colors on each of the layouts. My sister is going to complete pages of here kids to add to the album so that all of the grandkids will be included.
The future. Since this was a Christmas gift, I will give the grandparents a new set of layouts each year at Christmas that they can add to the album. Now that I have caught up and done a page for each year for each of my kids, this should be a quick gift in the future.
