Great Gifts: Photo Printer Buying Guide

A photo printer can make an excellent gift idea for someone in your life that enjoys taking digital photographs. Photo printers are typically designed to connect to any type of computer, and many photo printers don’t require you to connect them to a computer at all in order to use them.

Depending on your digital camera manufacturer you may be able to purchase a printer that you can directly connect your camera to, or one that you can simply take out the memory card and put the card into your printer without ever having to the put the pictures onto a computer.

For someone who likes taking pictures, a photo printer can be a fantastic item to own. Owning your own photo printer can allow you to print out the pictures you want, when you want them without having to go out to a store somewhere to do the printing.

When you’re shopping for a photo printer there are a few things you should keep in mind.

  • Purchasing a printer that is specifically designed to print photos is usually much better than purchasing all-in-one printers. All-in-one printers can be great, but will typically have a lower overall image quality than their dedicated counterparts.
  • Look at how much replacement ink cartridges will cost for your printer. Most printers come with starter inks, good for only a few photos. A printer may be cheaper for an initial purchase, but the ink may be incredibly expensive later on. Take the ink price into account when you select the right printer for you
  • Get all the cables. Most printers do not come with the cable to connect the printer to your computer. Check and make sure you have everything to make your printer work before you leave the store.
  • Buy photo paper. Sure, you may think that printing on regular paper is going to look great, but it most assuredly is not. Don’t ever try to print out photos on regular copy paper, always try to keep photo paper on hand to print
