I hope everybody has a good day today. Whether you have long been married, are newlyweds, are dating, or even if you’re single; whether you have a terrific relationship or one that isn’t much to brag about, or are not currently involved with anyone, you can make today a great day. Even if your partner isn’t the perfect Valentine, or you don’t have a Valentine at all, today can be a day to treat yourself and to make the day special for others who might not being feeling the love.
You’ll be surprised how good it will make you feel to bring a smile to someone else’s face. One year when I was particularly lonely after having recently ended a bad relationship, I was dreading Valentine’s Day. I decided I would not sit home and be depressed even though the very thought of seeing loving couples everywhere made me cringe. Yet, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I wasn’t the only person around that didn’t have a Valentine.
I went to the store and picked up a bag of miniature candy bars. I went to a local club that evening and passed out candy. There was a guy there that apparently had a similar idea. Roses were being sold by one of the waitresses and he was buying them to give to women that did not have dates.
No, there was no romance between him and me, but we did talk. He became a friend of mine and we did have some fun that night trying to cheer up other lonely hearts. So, don’t dread Valentine’s Day. Treat yourself and consider treating someone else who may also be feeling sad.
For those whose relationships aren’t currently conducive to a romantic evening, or at least you don’t think your relationship is, consider giving it a shot. It might just put a spark back into a relationship that seems to have gone cold.
