Have a Frugal Cinco de Mayo

cinco de mayo Are you throwing a Cinco de Mayo party this week? Why not save some money at the same time? Here are some tips on how you can have a fun but frugal Cinco de Mayo.

Buy Supplies in Bulk

Skip the party store for most of your supplies and head over to a warehouse store, such as BJs, Costco or Sam’s Club to do your shopping. You can buy everything from paper products to appetizers in bulk and cut down on the cost to feed your crowd.

Many times you can get a one-day pass to these warehouse stores in order to try them out for free without worrying about the annual fee added to your expenses.

Dollar Store Diva

What about all of those cool Cinco de Mayo decorations? Head over to a couple of dollar or discount stores to find what you need. They often have inexpensive party supplies that are in the right season, along with generic streamers (choose bright colors) and party favors.

Make Your Own

There is a lot that you can make for your party, quickly, easily, and cheaply. Remember the dollar store? While you are there, pick up some pretty tissue paper and make it into tissue paper flowers. You can also try making your own piñata. There are many online resources and videos that will show you how. Don’t forget to buy your candy in bulk to fill that piñata.

Choose Fun but Frugal Food

Fortunately, a lot of food that is just perfect for Cinco de Mayo is also inexpensive. Think about serving a taco bar, fajitas, and even hamburgers or hot dogs. See what happens to be on sale at the store this week and then get creative with it.

Pot Luck Baby

If you are comfortable asking your guests to bring food or drink, then you will definitely save money on your Cinco de Mayo party. Plus, the community atmosphere will add to the fun. You can even give out fun awards for the best dishes.
