Having More Kids Can SAVE You Money?!

I am pleased to be back to writing for families.com after the birth of our second little boy, Adam, a few weeks ago. There have been some new surprises in store for me upon having a second child. Not the least shocking has been the money I have saved over the last few weeks. Sound strange? Well, it’s all in proper perspective?.

Now, if you don’t factor in the hospital bills and diapers for a newborn, our family has been much more frugal since our little Adam was born. How can this be, you might ask? Well, put simply, it’s because we just can’t go anywhere. First, I am still inclined to keep Adam at home and away from crowds of people for a couple of weeks. Secondly, two small children are not nearly as portable as one. So, the three of us spend our entire day–every day–at home. This is far from how I use to live my life when I only had one child.

With one little child, I could go just about anywhere I pleased. And please let me tell you, I did go everywhere! It seemed as if I had to get out of the house nearly every day. Sometimes we would find things to do for free like go to the park or to the mall play court for my toddler to play, and other times (all too often) we would run errands and take trips to various stores.

Since I have been confined to home for the last few weeks I have taken time to run just a few errands in the evenings when my husband has been home, for the things that we really need. Not only does this save us money on nonessential items, but it saves at least twenty or thirty dollars a week on gasoline!

I think I am getting use to this new form of life. Once little Adam is old enough to be taken out of the house, I think we will still choose to spend more time at home.
