Heartfelt Gratitude

My daughter’s second grade teacher has been out on sick leave for the past 11 weeks.

She went in for “routine” surgery and ended up spending nearly three weeks in the hospital and another two months on bed rest.

It’s been a trying time for everyone involved, including the twenty-something confused seven and eight year olds who thought they were only going to be stuck with a sub for two weeks.

Mrs. J has been leading the charge for nearly three months, but now she’s moving on, and the kids are bracing for a new substitute, but that’s fodder for a different blog.

Long story short I have roughly 72 hours to craft a thank you scrapbook for Mrs. J to show how much the kids (and parents) appreciate all that she has done since January.

Needless to say, I am freaking out a bit. I don’t have all of the pictures developed. What’s more, I don’t have any of the paper or embellishments I need. The only element I have in place is a list of quotes that speak to an overwhelming feeling of gratitude. I plan to pepper the layouts with these gems… and then add some real sparklers to accent the heartfelt words:

“Gratitude is the best attitude.” ~Author Unknown

“It’s not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them that is the true measure of our thanksgiving.” ~W.T. Purkiser

“The only people with whom you should try to get even are those who have helped you.” ~John E. Southard

“I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought, and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.” ~G.K. Chesterton

“I would thank you from the bottom of my heart, but for you my heart has no bottom.” ~Author Unknown

“The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention.” ~Oscar Wilde

“It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice.” ~Author Unknown

“Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” ~Mark Twain
