Holiday Decoration Family Fun

Who says you have to spend a fortune creating festive holiday decorations for your home? With a little effort and some creativity you can make a variety of seasonal decorations without breaking the bank.

Here’s how:

Christmas Card Collage: During the holidays, most people receive dozens of Christmas greeting cards. Instead of stacking the cards in a pile or tossing them into a basket, consider cutting out your favorite images, and creating a collage. You can even add small embellishments such as buttons, ribbons or silk flowers for a one-of-a-kind piece of holiday artwork.

Gift Stacks: Fake out your kids while creating an inexpensive room decoration. Simply wrap empty boxes in a variety of shapes and sizes in pretty paper and stack them in the corner of a room for a hearty helping of holiday cheer.

Family Photos: Make the most of your family Christmas portraits. Instead of using them exclusively for your holiday greeting card, consider matting black and white copies of your favorite shots on red and green patterned Christmas paper and placing the finished product in budget-friendly silver frames.

Edible Decor: Raid your panty to make a garland of popcorn and cranberries. Or hang cheap candy canes from your Christmas tree. Another option is to create centerpieces from apples, lemons, limes and oranges. You could also bake gingerbread men cookies and add them to your tree as well.

Candles: Add a touch of seasonal sophistication to your home by placing inexpensive red, white and green candles on mirrors to make them look bigger and brighter.

Bows: You’d be surprised by how festive your home can look with the addition of just a few red bows. Look at your local craft store, dollar store or rummage sales for inexpensive spools of pretty velvet ribbon. Then, tie large bows around your banisters, stair rails, and doorknobs. Or add bows to wreaths or other greenery for a pop of holiday color.
