If you are looking for work, some relief might come in the way of landing a job for the holidays. Although it may not lead to permanent work, it can at the very least help defray some holiday expenses. The options are endless as the holidays promote not only the usual surge in gift sales but all the adjunct industries as well. Companies like FedEx and UPS need many people to help them get through their busiest season of the year. According to UPS spokesperson, Heather Robinson, between Thanksgiving and Christmas the company expects to deliver between 14 and 20 million packages a day, which is more than 43 percent more than normal daily delivery volumes.
Deliveries have taken on new meanings in this complex world of ours. The more high-end kind of operations deliver many things by hand, such as food trays and flowers. Many promise same day delivery, which works well for impromptu office parties. Catering is another industry, which although stressful enough in nature, increases by volumes during the holiday season. Many catering companies need seasonal employees to help with the increased numbers of parties being thrown by families and companies. In many instances, traditional waiter experience is not necessary as these jobs most often are not of a serving nature.
Party planning offers many hidden opportunities, if you are not too tired to look for them. In most instances, it is a proven record of reliability and not experience that is the key factor in landing some of these seasonal jobs. This will permit you to get a foot in the door of an industry you might not have heretofore considered for full-time or permanent part-time job opportunities.
So keep an open mind and look for those half open doors, avoiding at the same time open manholes.
