Holiday Sale Tips

One holiday seems to run right into another. One good thing about that fact is the sales from one can sometimes help you get ready for another.

We don’t get too many trick-or-treaters out here on our dirt road, so I don’t buy a lot of candy before Halloween. However, I do like to go out the day after Halloween and hit the candy sales.

I can pick up snacks, treats, and candies for 50% off and sometimes more. I like to grab bags of mini granola bars, and those treat sized bags of chips or pretzels for the kids’ lunches.

I also pick up some candy. Check the dates. Most of it is good for quite a while past Halloween. I like to find candies wrapped in fall colors rather than a Halloween theme, because they are great for filling candy dishes for Thanksgiving or other times when company is coming in between holidays.

One year, I also found a cute pumpkin potpourri burner and candle holder set. They weren’t decorated like jack-o-lanterns, just pumpkins, so they worked great for Thanksgiving.

So, how do after Thanksgiving sales help you get ready for Christmas? I’m not talking about Black Friday -yet- (although it does help to plan and prepare ahead for that event!). I’m talking about items like foil roasting pans (and other sizes) for half price. This is often a good time to pick up extra serving pieces as well. While many items will be in Thanksgiving themes or colors, not all of them are. Besides, some of the colors will work for Christmas.

I like to have extra serving bowls, plates, and platters on hand for serving special items, desserts, or special foods that others bring. I have a solid colored, large oval stoneware platter and two large, round matching ones. I’ve had them for some time, so I’m hoping to find some deals on new one this year. They work great for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any time.

I would tell you how shiny gold and silver stars and other sparkling Christmas items can be picked up at after Christmas sales to use for New Year’s Eve, but then I’d be getting ahead of myself.
