I’m sure you know by now that TV and movie actor Ed Begley is considered the greenest man in Tinsel Town. (What? You didn’t know?) The guy drives his electric car to the Academy Awards and powers his home with the sun and his stationary bike. He is a passionate environmentalist (heck, he even stars in his own reality show, which documents his green lifestyle). But, he’s not the only one in Hollywood with a green thumb.
Singer Sheryl Crow has a few green fingers herself and she’s encouraging others to go green as well. Crow is currently traveling the country on a “Stop Global Warming College Tour.” It kicked off this week at Southern Methodist University in Dallas and according to news reports, the singer and her eco-friendly message drew massive crowds. (Did I mention that each student who showed up for the rally received a free energy-efficient Philips compact fluorescent light bulb?)
Joining Crow on the tour of 11 campuses is “An Inconvenient Truth” producer Laurie David. The women decided to take hit the road to inform college students about the climate crisis and how they can help stop it. (A documentary team is also with them filming the tour.)
On Monday Crow told students that she holds her own when it comes to saving the environment.
“I try to wash my clothes in cold water as much as I can,” she said. “I turn off lights in rooms that I’m not using. I drive a hybrid. I’m getting solar panels for my house.”
But, that’s not all. Crow’s tour bus is reportedly running on eco-friendly biodiesel fuel.
That’s the same kind of fuel Academy Award-winning actress Julia Roberts is rallying to get school buses to use. Roberts has gotten political with her efforts to promote biodiesel fuel.
“I just feel that any parent who’s informed cannot put their kid on a school bus without saying to their school district or their congressman, ‘Hey, man, you gotta clean this up for us!’ Because it’s too easy not to fix,” Roberts said during an interview with Elle Magazine.
The actress has also made other changes to her life in an effort to save the planet, including taking her own canvas sacks to the grocery store so she can avoid using plastic and paper bags.
