Hollywood’s New IT Career–Fashion Design

First it was Madonna, then Justin Timberlake , Sienna Miller and Sarah Jessica Parker jumped on the bandwagon. Next, Luke Wilson and Matthew McConaughey wanted in on the action too.

Geez, is there any one in Hollywood who doesn’t have his or her own celebrity fashion line?

I doubt it after learning about the latest round of TV and movie fashionistas (none who have any experience in the fashion biz—-not that that’s a prerequisite in Tinseltown these days) who are now offering you a chance to wear a little number they had a hand in creating.

Add Lindsay Lohan’s name to the rapidly growing list of actors-turned-fashion-designers. (Why not… it’s not like she’s doing much these days.) Lohan recently announced that she is designing a line of leggings. (Yes, those comfortable stretchy pants that most pregnant women live in.) Lohan reportedly loves the look (at one point, she was photographed in leggings for 21 days straight) and according to her rep, the actress plans to debut her new line herself. Though no release date has been set.

Lohan will be following in the footsteps of actress Rachel Bilson as yet another celeb adding the title of fashion designer to their list of accomplishments. Bilson is reportedly teaming up with DKNY Jeans to create a juniors sportswear line that includes everything from jackets to dresses and jeans to knits. The former “O.C.” star’s line will debut at major department stores such as Macy’s, Dillard’s and Nordstrom this fall.

Finally, not that I want to give the following reality TV stars any more press, but this blog wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the girls from “The Hills.” These nobodies went from local high school students to TV stars and now each has chosen to dive into the world of fashion design.

First, it was Lauren Conrad. Then Heidi Montag announced she plans to unveil her Heidiwood collection soon. Now Whitney Port is joining the design fray. The former Teen Vogue intern’s contemporary clothing line is being co-designed by her pal Adrienne Baravetto. The 17-piece collection, which reportedly will feature a lot of navy, pink, multi-colored jackets, and dresses, will retail from approximately $100 to $500 and be in upscale boutiques like Planet Blue this fall.
