Hosting a Frugal Halloween Party

What could be more fun at this time of year, than planning a Halloween party? However, parties are expensive and there are many things that go into a good party. Is it possible to actually have a frugal Halloween party?

Yes, it is possible to host a party for not a lot of money, but it takes plenty of planning and plenty of work. If you are willing to put time and effort into it, you can have a very fun party.

What expenses can you typically plan to incur at a Halloween party?

Food and Beverages

This is typically the first thing you will have to think about, as well as the most expensive part. If you plan ahead and make a list of what you’d like to serve, you might be able to reduce costs tremendously. Plus, if you ask the others to each bring a dish, you won’t have to do as much and you will save a lot. Watch later today for an article on Planning Food for a Halloween Party. Also, remember that you can purchase large liters of soda and fruit juices for a pretty good cost. Provide one cup for each kid and write their name on it to avoid the cost of replenishing the fruit juice pouches or boxes that tend to cost a lot.

Entertainment

At another type of party the entertainment might be the most expensive, but not here. Watch the frugal living blog for another part of this series of articles dealing with Frugal Halloween Party Entertainment posting tomorrow. In the meantime, you need to think of games and activities that won’t cost a lot. I don’t want to give too much away, since the articles will be laden with more ideas.

Goody Bags or Prizes

You will need to decide if you will do prizes for the various games and activities, or if you would rather send everyone home with a loot or goody bag at the end. At the dollar store you can get dozens of different items in the party supply section for hardly any cost. You can usually find Halloween themed pencils, erasers and other goodies at various discount chains in packages which are always a big hit. To create an inexpensive goody bag, be sure and check out my article on Frugal Halloween Party Entertainment tomorrow.
