Hosting a Yoga Party

If you want a unique party theme, consider hosting a yoga party. A yoga party is a relaxing and invigorating get together and a fun way to spend time with friends and family. This is fairly easy to plan and doesn’t take a lot of work, compared with other parties.

You’ll need to start with the guest list, as with any party planning. Don’t limit your guests to people in your life who already practice yoga, or even to just women. You may be surprised at the people in your life who have thought about trying yoga, but haven’t.

Once you’ve created your guest list, you’ll need to send invitations. Use general store bought party invitations or make your own on your home computer. You can find yoga clip art and images online to use on your invitation. Provide information about what to wear (lightweight comfortable clothing) and what to bring (a yoga mat or towel).

A yoga party is the perfect opportunity to try yoga in a relaxed atmosphere, with no pressure to commit to taking classes. Since not all people attending the party are experienced in yoga, a gentle, basic form of yoga is the best choice for a party, such as beginner’s hatha yoga.

The next thing to consider is who will lead the class? Your yoga instructor may be willing to do it for a reasonable fee. If you are proficient and create your own sequences for your home practice, you can create a practice to use at the party and lead it yourself.

Where will you hold the practice segment of the party? You’ll need a room with enough space for the number of guests to spread out. You may have to move furniture to the side, or out of the room for the duration of the party. Plan ahead, so you can have the room ready before the guests arrive.

Make sure you have what you need to play relaxing music. A CD player and a CD of yoga music are important. If you are using a yoga teacher for the party, ask if she will be brining her own equipment or if you will need to supply a CD player. Use soft lighting or a few scented candles to create the perfect yoga atmosphere.

After the practice, you will have time to socialize. You don’t need to go crazy cooking for days before the party, light foods and wine or cocktails is perfect. If you really want to create the yoga mood, make some organic, vegetarian or other healthy recipes for appetizers and party foods.
