How Much do You Pay for Pajamas?

Pajamas, especially kids’ pajamas have gotten out of hand, if you ask me. When you can easily find adult’s pajamas for half the price, despite the fact that they require at least twice as much fabric to make, something just isn’t right. While the most expensive pajamas usually include trademark characters, you would think that you’d get more than the name or image when you pay the big bucks. That’s not always true, and sometimes the quality leaves a lot to be desired.

While we all want to buy cool stuff for our kids, I refuse to pay $25.00 and up, for something made of one or two yards of cheap fabric because it says something on it or has some cute little guy on it. Nope. Not this mom. That would mean over $100.00 for one pair of jammies for each of my children. I can think of better ways to spend $100.00, so I’ll either wait until I catch pajamas on clearance or I’ll find another alternative.

There are lots of other options for pajamas. An all time frugal favorite is using oversized t-shirts in place of nightshirts. You can give a younger child a large shirt that doesn’t fit an older sibling any longer, or one of Mom or Dad’s old shirts. Even if you buy brand new large t-shirts, you will still save quite a bit of money, and they are very comfortable.

Sweats will work too. You can cut off an old pair of sweat pants to make sleeping shorts during warmer months. Sweats also work great on those especially cold nights. In fact, they’re warmer than many styles of pajamas. Your kids will stay snuggly warm, even if they do kick off the covers. You can pick up Hane’s sweat pants and sweat shirts for about $6 per piece, so even new, they are cheaper than many pajamas.

Another good option for cold weather is long johns or as some people call them, long underwear or thermals. They are warm and comfortable and they cost about half as much as pajamas. They are available in different styles and colors including pretty colors for girls. Some even have lace and bows.
