How to Make Your Haircut Last Longer

Save money on your haircuts by making them last longer. With fewer cuts in the year, you can save money, from $20-$60, depending on the going prices in your area.

For years, my husband and I got our hair cuts at less expensive places. We were never really happy with the cuts, but being practical, we got them done and moved on. That was until we found a nicer salon that actually did a better job. The extra expense actually wound up being worth it in the end. The better cut not only looked better, but it lasted longer. Because the cut was more precise, it took longer for it to look like it had grown out.

Another way to make your cut last longer is to ask if you can have bang trims for free. Many salons offer this service just for the asking. This can prolong your cut to twice the length of time. You should offer a tip of a dollar or two, although my stylist won’t take it.

Dry ends, flyaway ends and split ends tend to make a cut look old and your hair in need of a trim or new cut. Take care of these issues in the shower to extend the length of time between hair cuts.

When you get into the shower, first put some conditioner on the dry ends of your hair, only the ends. Let it sit for about a minute or two and then wash and condition your hair as you would normally. Repeat this treatment at least once a week to keep your hair looking healthy. Remember to use only as much conditioner as you need.

Another trick to keep hair looking good is to brush your hair daily with a natural bristle brush. There is some truth to the old fashioned practice of brushing hair more frequently than we do today. The brush distributed your natural scalp oils, which keeps your hair in great shape.
