How Your Teen Can Earn Money This Summer

With the summer job market being tight this year, your teens may have to come up with some unconventional ways to earn some money this summer. Here are some ideas for them to try.

Host a Camp

I know a couple of teens who created a thriving business hosting a camp in conjunction with the local ice rink. Parents can drop their kids off for fun and games with the hosts when they aren’t on the ice skating. Teens can check with local gymnastics programs, pools, bowling alleys and other places where a little extra child care would be welcome.

Older teens could also host their own summer camp programs at home. Counsel them to make sure that there are at least two teens involved at all times, they should be certified in baby sitting and in CPR, and there should be an adult that they can call if needed.

Host a Garage Sale

With so many people downsizing, teens could start a summer business helping to clean out garages and storage areas and hosting garage sales. The teens could charge by the hour or for a potion of the sales. Teens should work in teams and be prepared to get a little dusty.

Sell Something at the Local Farmer’s Markets

Many farmer’s markets allow you to sell goods without getting charged a fee. If this is the case, your teens could take advantage of this to sell homemade crafts, baked goods, exotic flavored lemonade, etc.

Teach Others about Tech

If it is one thing that most teens are good at, it is using technology. Teens could set up a local business teaching adults, especially older adults how to use current technology, such as texting, smart phones, Facebook, etc. Many senior centers are always looking for someone to teach seniors about using the Internet.
