Idaho Has Several Parts to its Medicaid Plan

Idaho Medicaid is a public form of health insurance that is designed to cover people who are low-income. Every state has some form of Medicaid, but, the programs do vary a bit from one state to the next. Idaho has a Medicaid plan that is composed of several parts.

The Idaho Medicaid program is administered by the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. The top of their website says: “Promoting and protecting the health and safety of all Idahoans”. Medicaid is a public, or government run, form of health insurance. Funding for Medicaid comes from both the federal government and from the government of an individual state.

Idaho has a Medicaid program that is made up of several parts. The Idaho Medicaid State Plan is made up of the Standard State Plan and three different Benchmark benefit plans.

The Standard Plan provides only the mandatory minimum benefits. Basic Benchmark is for low-income children and is also for adults with eligible dependent children. Enhanced Benchmark is for people with disabilities or special health needs. The Medicare Medicaid Coordinated plan is for people who are eligible and who are enrolled in both Medicare and Medicaid.

In order to be eligible for Medicaid in Idaho a person must be an Idaho resident. A person must also be a citizen of the United States, or a legal non-citizen. There are also income criteria that have to be met. There is a handy chart on their website that can explain the income limits in terms of dollar amounts.

The Standard Plan covers only the mandatory minimum benefits. These include: primary care case management, hospital services, lab and x-ray, physician services, midwife services, family planning, home health, emergency, medical transportation, and nursing home coverage for people over the age of 21.

The Basic Benchmark plan gives you all that, plus coverage for dental, vision, basic mental health, therapies, prosthetics / orthotics, durable medical equipment and supplies, and school based services. The Enhanced Benchmark plan gives you all of that coverage, plus private duty nursing, ICF/ID, expanded mental health clinic, psychosocial rehabilitation, and more.
