Ideas for Halloween Ward Activities

Halloween is coming soon and your ward is likely having one of the usually activities. You may be having a fall carnival, a trunk or treat activity, a chili cook-off or a combination of the three. If these seem a little mundane or trite to you, you may consider changing up the activities a little bit.

1) You could have a costume dance for the youth. You could extend this activity into a service project by inviting the older members to the dance and playing oldies (or older) music to dance to.

2) You could offer a story time for the children. This could focus on fall or on Halloween. The children could come in costumes or not. You can additionally plan crafts and fall/pumpkin treats that the children can make or decorate. This can be a lot of fun.

3) You could have a ward service project in which you divide into large groups and help to rake leaves or do other service for those in need in your ward or area. There are always more leaves to rake and ways to winterize a garden.

4) You could have a big ward dinner with a special mystery play that you put on. This would take planning, and should involve anyone that wants to be involved. It should also appeal to both the young and the old in your ward. You could have a variety show as well. This may be easier to put together, but still fun for everyone to watch.

One of the reasons that wards usually have an activity on Halloween is to help keep the children and teenagers safe. If this is the case you may want to combine the traditionally trunk or treat or carnival with some of the above activities. It is always fun to see the children in their cute costumes as well.
