Ideas for Holiday Family Fun

You know you live in a small town when a visit by the world-famous Radio City Rockettes makes headlines. Just in time for the holidays the precision kickers are coming to northeast Wisconsin. It’s the first time in history that the Rockettes have rolled into town and families looking for some holiday excitement are all a buzz.

But, we’re not the only stop on their tour. If you can’t make it to New York to see the annual Radio City Christmas Spectacular at Rockefeller Center, the Rockettes are taking their show on the road this season with stops in Buffalo, Chicago, Nashville, Cleveland, Columbus, St. Louis, Dayton, Cincinnati, Houston, Minneapolis, and a host of other cities across the country.

The show features dazzling scenery, costumes and lighting, as well as a cast and crew of nearly 100 members. According to event organizers, the highlight of the show is a massive “12 Days of Christmas” production featuring the legendary favorite “Parade of the Wooden Soldiers” and the awe-inspiring “Living Nativity.”

The Rockettes’ visit to Nashville later this week coincides with the Grand Ole Opry’s holiday lighting ceremony. The Nashville tourist attraction is also hosting a “Country Christmas” this year with more than a dozen shows and attractions, including outdoor Nativity scenes, 30,000 poinsettias and two million lights. The event draws nearly a million people each year.

If you can’t make it to see the Rockettes in person, but you still want to treat your kids to a family-friendly holiday show, consider purchasing tickets to “A Christmas Carol.” The Christmas classic haunts local theaters around the country this time of year such as The Stage Theatre in Denver, starting November 28th; the Alley Theatre-Hubbard Stage in Houston, beginning November 21st; the Indiana Repertory Theatre in Indianapolis, beginning November 15th; and the Shubert Performing Arts Center in New Haven, Connecticut, November 28-30.
