In a previous blog I shared some of the poems I plan to use in my Thanksgiving layouts. If you are like me, and struggle to express your innermost thoughts in a journaling block, then it helps to know that there are places you can visit for inspiration.
Fortunately, the Internet is teeming with easy to navigate sites, which feature poems that are appropriate for scrapbooking. One of my favorites is PoemSource.com. It is loaded with warm words that are a welcome addition to any Thanksgiving-themed page design.
Another site worth visiting if you have writer’s block is AbundantFun.com. The site features a vast archive of humorous and heartfelt holiday poems submitted by every day people. You can select from a cornucopia of Thanksgiving poems, and then come back for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and other special occasions.
If you are looking for shorter, yet very inspirational Turkey Day poems, then head over to ThanksgivngDay.org. The site is filled with holiday prose, both simple and sophisticated. You might also dig around in your attic or basement for old workbooks you used in high school or college English class. A few years ago I discovered a few poems I penned when I was a high school junior, and used them in my scrapbook layouts.
Once you select the perfect poem, it’s time to figure out the best way to incorporate the words into your page designs. I like to feature the words as a decorative element by replacing the first letter of the first line in the poem with a chipboard monogram. Another way to make the poems look prettier is to replace key words with stickers, rub-ons, or elaborate fonts. I’ve also seen some scrappers go all out by printing the poem on vellum, and then attaching it to the layout with fancy ribbon.
