Increasing the Odds of Getting Pregnant

Trying to conceive can be a very stressful time. Once you decide the time is right for a baby, you want it to happen right away. When trying to conceive, keep in mind that you only have about a 25% chance of conceiving in any given month. There are some things you can do to increase your odds of getting pregnant.

Maintain a healthy weight to increase your odds of conception. Studies have shown that it’s easier for women of normal weight to conceive. Being either under or over weight can reduce your chances. A healthy diet and regular exercise are the best way to keep your weight under control. Avoid crash diets when trying to get pregnant.

Include foods rich in folic acid in your diet. This nutrient is very important when you do get pregnant. Folic acid reduces the risk of defects of the brain and spinal cord in babies. It’s most important in the early weeks of pregnancy. Take a vitamin that includes folic acid when trying to get pregnant to increase your chances of having a healthy baby.

While you are making lifestyle changes, consider quitting smoking. Women who smoke cigarettes have a more difficult time when trying to conceive. You aren’t the only one affected by smoking. Have your husband quit too. Smoking can decrease the sperm count in some men.

Chart your most fertile days to increase your chances of getting pregnant. Keep track of your most fertile days. In general, this is between twelve and sixteen days prior to your next period. Keep track of your cycle and fertile days on a calendar. Ovulation predictor kits can help predict your most fertile time.

Time intercourse to coincide with your most fertile days. The days leading up to ovulation and the day of ovulation are the best times to have sex. Since the egg only lives between twelve and twenty four hours, the days after ovulation aren’t a good time to try.

The position you use during intercourse can affect your chances of successful conception. The man on top or missionary position is the best for getting pregnant. This puts the sperm closer to your cervix for faster conception. The woman on top position is the worst, since the sperm will move in the wrong direction. To increase the odds even more, elevate your hips on a pillow during sex. Stay elevated for about fifteen minutes after intercourse.

Trying to conceive can turn sex into a chore. Try not to let this happen. When you enjoy intercourse, you increase the odds of getting pregnant. An enjoyable sex life is also very important for your relationship. When trying to conceive, make an effort to keep sex intimate and interesting. Dress in lingerie and be romantic. Have intercourse at different times and in different places to help keep the romance alive during this very stressful time in your lives.
