Information about Manufactured Homes

Years ago, manufactured homes were known as mobile homes but with today’s designs and technologies, they have completely changed. The only similarity is the fact that both are constructed in a factory and then moved to the buyer’s property. One of the exceptional facts about manufactured homes is that they are required to meet specific HUD guidelines for both quality and safety, guidelines that are strictly enforced.

Once a home is done being built, it is then moved to the property on a permanent steel chassis. If you begin shopping around at homes and look at manufactured homes, you can determine the age of the home by looking in a kitchen cabinet, bedroom closet, or near the main electrical panel where you would find a plate with all types of important information. For instance, in addition to the age of the home, you would also learn about air conditioning, heating, appliances, and so on. In fact, this data plate will also reveal the home’s snow load and wind zone.

If you were going to buy a manufactured home and then have it moved, keep in mind that some communities do not allow this type of housing. Therefore, before you run out to purchase a piece of property, you want to make sure you talk to the zoning office to determine if there are any restrictions. However, because manufactured homes are becoming more and more popular, we are seeing a growing number of options for property.

One of the huge benefits to choosing a manufactured home is that if you were to decide to move, you can take your home with you. In this case, the land would be the only thing left to sell. With that, you would simply move the home to a new manufactured approved lot. Just remember that different manufactured homes are rated for different climates so if you plan to take your new home with you to another location, make sure the home qualifies.
