It is time for this week’s Insurance Podcast Roundup. This is a good place to start if you are trying to keep up with the latest news about health insurance. Sometimes, it makes more sense to listen to someone explain an insurance related matter than it would if you sat down and read about it yourself.
NPR has an episode of “All Things Considered” that was released on November 21, 2011. This episode is called “California Republicans Quietly Embrace Medicaid Expansion”. Some of the same politicians who have been very loud about calling for the defeat of the Affordable Care Act are accepting funding that will be used to set up an insurance exchange in their home districts.
NPR has an episode of “Morning Edition” that was released on November 21, 2011. This episode is called “Shortage of ADHD Drugs Has Parents, Doctors Scrambling”. This episode goes over some of the potential affects of having young people with ADHD go off their medications.
It also notes that the Drug Enforcement Administration doesn’t think there is a shortage going on at all. Instead, it has to do with the limits placed on the creation of this type of drug.
NPR has an episode of “All Things Considered” that was released on November 18, 2011. This episode is called “Gingrich’s History On Health Care Gets an Exam”. This episode takes a look at a paper trail that identifies Newt Gingrich as the person who first came up with the insurance mandate.
CNN has an video episode of the Sanjay Gupta MD podcast that was released on November 21, 2011. This episode is called “Cancer patients can’t get meds”. Dr. Sanjay Gupta investigates who is to blame for 550,000 cancer patients being told that the drugs they need are unavailable to them.
PBS NewsHour has an episode that was released on November 17, 2011. This episode is called “Program Brings Dental Care to Remote Alaskans”. Health correspondent Betty Ann Bowser discusses a program to train dental therapists to preform basic care in rural Alaska.
The Covert Rationing Blog Podcast has an episode that was released on November 17, 2011. This episode is called “Republicans Blithely Enter The Individual Mandate Trap”. In this episode, Dr. Rich shares his thoughts about the insurance mandate. He wonders what the Republicans will do if that law is defeated by the Supreme Court.
