Insurance – There’s an App for That!

iPhone When you think about iPhone apps, you probably think of games like Words With Friends, or Angry Birds. Other apps are designed to be a quick resource of a specific kind of information that you might need to access while you are away from your computer. Did you know that there are insurance related apps? It seems some insurance companies are getting into the app market.

What kind of apps do you have on your smartphone? In addition to some fun games, you might have apps that let you know about sales, that give you directions, or that help you keep track of how many calories you are consuming. Each app has a specific purpose.

Did you know that there are insurance related apps? Some of these apps are designed to show you a comparison of the cost of insurance from different companies. Other insurance apps help you to connect with your insurance company in case you have a question, or need to make a claim. There are also a few insurance related games, that are just for fun.

If you have an iPhone, you can visit the iTunes store online, and search for a list of insurance apps. Some are only useful if you happen to have insurance with that particular company. In general, these kinds of apps will give you directions, allow you to file a claim through the app itself, allow you to pay your bill through the app, and more. Most of these app are free. I found apps for the following insurance companies in the iTunes store:

“Progressive” (Progressive Insurance)
“Allstate Mobile” (Allstate Insurance)
“State Farm Pocket Agent” (State Farm Insurance)
“Amica” (Amica Insurance)
“Safeco Insuance” (Safeco Insurance)
“Geico GloveBox” (Geico Insurance)
“Esurance Mobile” (Esurance Insurance)
“Aetna Mobile” (Aetna Insurance)

Want to learn more about insurance? Try the “Insurance Journal News” app, from Insurance Journal. Get international and national news stories related to insurance. “Insurance Glossary” is an app designed to give you more information about what a particular insurance term means. This app is $4.99, and seems to be designed for insurance agents. Try the “Insurance Terminology Glossary” app, which is only $0.99, to get a basic understanding about insurance terms. Some of these same apps are available for Android but not all of them can be found there at this time.

Time to have some fun! Check out the “Color Me Fun” app from Farmers Insurance. This app lets you use a paintbrush to color in a cute coloring book, with several different designs. “Route-Rageous” is from Progressive. To play this game, you guide your car through a twisting and turning road, and try and avoid the hazards. “Claims Denied!” costs $0.99”. In this game, you are an employee in the health insurance industry. You throw paperwork, shoot out red stamps, “call in the pre-existing conditions clause” and attempt to save your insurance company as much money as possible.
