Invisible

As mothers so much of what we do each day goes unseen. We work from sun up until sun down with little rest in between. We give everything we have and more to care for our children. It’s hard to feel as if you have nothing to show for all of your backbreaking work each day. We often feel unappreciated because our children are far too young to understand the sacrifices we make for them on a daily basis. At times we feel completely invisible.

When you are single, the sacrifices are even greater because you are the only one to make them. You have to make an even greater effort to keep your home running smoothly. You do your best to hold it together but behind the scenes you are on the verge of falling apart. Nobody knows how hard it is to be a single mom until they are placed in that situation themselves. You may feel as if nobody sees all of the hard work you do every day.

I recently read an article in which the woman described our motherly work as building a cathedral. The architecture has an indescribable beauty, but those who were involved in its construction will never see the finished product. Despite, not being able to see the beauty of their work come together, they continue to work hard and do their best. As mothers, we too are building cathedrals. We may never get to see the beauty that will be added to the world because of our invisible sacrifice, but the beauty is there nonetheless. The world may not know what you are doing behind the scenes now, but one day they will see the kind of people your children are and they will know the great things you did to get them there.
