iPhone Service Plans Announced

Just today, Apple and AT&T announced the service plans that will be available for the iPhone. This is good news to many who at first weren’t sure if they would even been given the pricing for the iPhone plans before the launch date. In yesterday’s article, What Will that iPhone Cost You, I mentioned this dilemma as well as the announcement that AT&T would be making their pricing available before the iPhone launch.

Customers will need to choose from one of these plans and sign up in order to purchase an iPhone. The sign up will require a two-year commitment, and an early termination fee will apply if users cancel their service before the end of their contract.

The plans are pretty simple and not unaffordable. All of the plans come with the same features. The only difference in plans is the number of minutes you can purchase. Family plans and an upgrade from an existing AT&T plan are also available.

Here are the standard service features that come with the iphone through AT&T.

  • Visual voicemail, a feature that allows users to see a listing of all of the voicemail messages and decide which messages to listen to and go directly to them, bypassing any previous and unheard messages. This is a first in the cell phone industry.
  • SMS text messages, 200 to be exact
  • Rollover minutes
  • Unlimited mobile to mobile calling.

Based on minutes, the plans start at $59.99 per month. Here is the breakdown.

  1. $59.99 for 450 minutes
  2. $79.99 for 900 minutes
  3. $99.99 for 1350 minutes
  4. $119.99 for 2000 minutes
  5. $169.99 for 4000 minutes
  6. $219.99 for 6000 minutes

An activation fee will also be charged.

Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs commented on the service plans. “We want to make choosing a service plan simple and easy, so every plan includes unlimited data with direct Internet access, along with Visual Voicemail and a host of other goodies.

“We think these three plans give customers the flexibility to experience all of iPhone’s revolutionary features at affordable and competitive prices.”
