Is Scrapbooking A Spectator Sport?

So, we all know that scrapbooking is technically NOT a sport at all, but wouldn’t it be interesting if it were? But, since we know it’s not going to make the Olympics anytime soon, let’s just pretend that it is for just one second. Are there spectators?

Many times, it feels like there is no one that cares other than us about our beautiful scrapbook pages. For some people, that is just fine. They are content creating and scrapping even if no one is watching. But, in this age of the Internet, and everyone being everywhere all the time, it’s easy to share your creations. And, I would venture to say that YES it is a spectator sport! Lots of people are watching.

Just by the fact that you are reading this post probably goes to show that there are people out there who love scrapbooking so much that they want to not only do it, but learn more about it, talk about it, and share those ideas. There are many great websites where you can upload your pages and have people comment on them. There are online blogs that host monthly challenges and give away prizes. There are message boards that have challenges where you “compete” for a small prize, and create a scrapbook page around a specific theme, or idea. All of that can be done with just your traditional scrapbooking. This doesn’t even include all of the digital scrapbooking that is out there!

However, since I have not tried that myself, I will stick to what I know, which is sharing my traditional scrapbook pages with others online. I found that it was not only fun, but a little addictive! That’s just what we need right? Another internet addiction? But, in all seriousness, it can be a fun way to motivate yourself to create more. And, there are LOTS of people that want to see your pages.

While, the true reason why I scrap is not to impress others, it is fun to be able to have others give you critique, praise, and appreciation for what you do. Isn’t that what most people want? A little validation? Try joining a website like Scrapbook.com or twopeasinabucket.com, or follow a blog that hosts monthly challenges. You will see how much fun it can be!
