When we lived in San Diego and decided to take our first weekend trip to Los Angeles, I planned the whole trip down to the last detail. My husband and best friend still make fun of me for doing that, but we got to go to many cool places. One of the places was Jerry’s Famous Deli.
Now I have been to a few restaurants that claimed to be famous that were not, so I was not exactly sure what to expect from Jerry’s Famous Deli. But, I had heard scads of celebrities go there and since I am a big celebrity hound, I added Jerry’s to our itinerary. Jerry’s web page lists the weekly celebrity sightings. This week alone, Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz, Johnny Knoxville, Lindsay Lohan, Courtney Cox and David Arquette and Slash from Guns and Roses fame were seen there.
As we pulled up in the driveway, I could tell it was a very popular place. It was hard to find a parking spot and once we did, we still had to wait for seating. The interior was nice, but nothing special. There is an attached bowling alley, the Sports Center Bowling Alley – that was cool. But the menu – oh my goodness, the menu. When I opened it up, I could no longer see my dear husband sitting across from me. That is because Jerry’s menu offers over 600 items. That is right – I said over 600 items. You can get steak, seafood, burritos, hamburgers, sandwiches, salads, soups, hotdogs, chicken, pasta, deli meats, and barbecue – just about anything you can think of! I ended up getting the barbecue sandwich (after about 10 minutes of just staring at the menu in awe) and it was delicious! Our celebrity was minimal – the only person we saw while there was the late Rod Roddy from The Price is Right. It was still a very memorable and delightful experience. I ended up visited one other time with friends from work and it was just as great the second time around.
We went to the Jerry’s Famous Deli in Studio City, CA, but there are also Jerry’s in Marina Del Rey, Woodland Hills, Encino, Costa Mesa, Westwood, West Hollywood, and Sherman Oaks. There are even three Jerry’s in Florida – two in Miami and one in South Beach. If you get a chance, visit one. You will love it!
