Join the Club

As if my email inbox was not on the brink of exploding as it is, I keep getting invitations to join different scrapbook clubs.

While I am appreciative to friends and family who forward me the evites, I barely have enough time to complete my backlog of layouts, let alone participate in a monthly club.

If you are short on time and money, then you should really think twice about joining a monthly scrapbook club. Which is not to say that the clubs don’t offer a variety of benefits; however, you should know that membership requires a certain level of commitment. In addition, many clubs are specialized, so if you aren’t into rubber stamping or making altered art projects, then you need to keep looking for your niche.

Also, keep in mind that monthly scrapbook clubs are typically kit clubs. These types of clubs send out a package of materials each month and you create layouts from the goodies in the kit. This set-up is extremely advantageous if you live in a rural area that doesn’t boast many scrapbook supply stores. By becoming a member of a club, you get the latest and greatest scrapbook materials sent directly to your home. What’s more, even if you are not familiar with a particular embellishment, the kits come with step-by-step instructions. Another bonus that comes with joining a club is that your monthly deliveries are already coordinated, so you don’t need to worry about matching paper, embellishments, and other layout features.

Bottom line: If you struggle to find time to create one layout every three months or so, then it’s unrealistic to think that you will make use of the items sent to your door in a month’s time. Kits typically include enough supplies for 10-15 layouts per month. Do the math and you will see that joining a club may be a big waste of money if you don’t have the time or energy to keep up with the deliveries.
