June is all about grads, dads and brides. Walk into any scrapbook supply shop these days and you will be inundated with paper, embellishments and albums that feature graduation, Father’s Day and wedding themes. If you are a frugal scrapper, mark your calendar for the days following the special occasions, as that is when you are most likely to find sales on specialty stickers, stamps and other embellishments.
I recently completed my daughter’s graduation memory book and now I only have two short weeks to create two Father’s Day scrapbooks. This year I am toying with the idea of crafting a digital scrapbook using free online embellishments and paper. I know it sounds a bit cheap, but the dads I am scrapping for could care less about how much I spend on them; rather, they are all about the thought behind the gift.
Currently, I am still in the planning stages. I have been checking out my options on Shabby Princess. The site features free digital scrapbooking embellishments and paper in a variety of colors and patterns. My favorites so far include the plaid and striped papers which I can offset with solid blues, browns and greens. The benefit of digital scrapbooking is that you can employ image editing software to tint or re-color elements that don’t match other items on your page.
The other good thing about crafting a digital Father’s Day memory book for the special dad or granddad in your life is that you will not want for selection. There are thousands of themed embellishments to choose from including animals, cars, sports and other hobby-related items. In addition, you can browse through existing layouts to get inspiration for your own page designs. You can select from popular titles, such as “My Hero,” “World’s Best Father,” “A Father’s Love,” and “Daddy and Me,” as well as touching quotes, like “A father dreams great dreams for you” and “A father is someone you look up to no matter how tall you grow.”
