Keeping Your Commitment on Valentine’s Day

Are you ready for Valentine’s Day? What are you planning? The key to staying on track is preparation. Holidays can sneak up on you. When you’re making progress, the last thing you want is a set back. Here are some suggestions for the holiday.

1. Don’t go out for dinner. Cook your own meal. Make it diet friendly.

2. If you do go out, don’t overeat. Wear form fitting clothes so that eating too much will make you feel uncomfortable. Skip the elastic waistbands.

3. Make a special request. Tell your significant other what you really want. It won’t kill the romance. It’s nice to get the gift you really wanted. If you’re single, treat yourself to something you have been wanting. You deserve it.

4. Do something active to celebrate: go dancing, roller blading, ice skating, or skiing.

5. Pamper yourself: try a spa, have a massage, relax to music while soaking in a warm tub, or do something that you would not ordinarily have time to do.

It’s only one day and you’ll make it through. Even if you get that heart shaped box you’ve got options. Share your gift. Get it out of your possession if you can’t stop at one. It’s a good idea to weigh the pros and cons of eating too many. If you’re losing weight keep up the progress. The sacrifices you make along the way are going to be worth it. The smell of chocolate is too tempting? Don’t worry. Eating one or two doesn’t spell disaster. Don’t give up or feel guilty. Pick up where you left off. Keep on moving.

If you haven’t chosen a weight loss plan, the worst time to start is on or near a holiday. You need to give yourself and your body time to adjust to a new way of eating. It’s about making a lifestyle change. It takes time to form new habits and to understand new concepts. You don’t want to feel like you’re depriving yourself. Wait until after the holiday is over and then get moving. Have your plan of action mapped out. Set yourself up to become a success story.
