Kid Friendly Sites: NASA for Kids

When I was in elementary school I briefly entertained the idea of becoming an astronaut. I had gone to museum that had a space ship flight simulator and had a ball working on the crew. Being an astronaut didn’t seem like I was that difficult, and you go to eat as much Tang and freeze-dried ice cream as you wanted. What could be better?

If you have a child who is interested in space travel, then they also might be interested in NASA’s website for kids. The site is set up by NASA to teach your children about space and space travel in an easy to read approachable way for kids.

Right now on the sites homepage there is a color and learn book you child can print out and learn about what goes into a shuttle launch while coloring. There is a power point like class where your children can read about how astronauts train for their missions. There are also articles on the planets, the sun, and the solar system.

On the NASA kids website there is also a good amount of education games your kids can play such as shuttle tac toe, and a return to flight memory game as well as many others. The site is full of space related activities and stories your children can read.

The website also has a “Did You Know?” section that teaches kids a fun fact about space or the Earth each day.

I think that any child that has shown a good interests in space will get a kick out of this website. Now as an adult, I still have a pretty strong fascination with space and spent a good deal of time on this website this afternoon playing the games myself. Everything on the site is pretty easy to read and understand. The site could also be a good starting point for children working on school projects or doing research.
