Knowledge Is Power When It Comes to Drugs

It used to be that it was easy to know the types of drugs that teens might try. But gone are the days of that. Now you hear about kids getting high on everyday products.

Or you hear about a new substance that while it isn’t illegal, it can still produce the same effects such as may be found in marijuana. So for parents it can be difficult to keep up on the latest trends.

In the past I have blogged about some of these things—including spice, digital drugs and salvia. But as much as I try to keep updated, it seems more and more is out there that I’m not aware of. For instance, did you know that even bath salts can be used as a drug? I just recently learned this.

Well good news if you feel like you are in the same boat as me. New online tools are available to help with understanding the dangers of synthetic drugs. In fact, you can get a kit which includes a printable guide, podcast and video. It discusses street names for the various drugs available, side effects they can cause and how you can tell if your child may be using them.

The reality is that more and more kids are turning to synthetic drugs because they are usually cheaper and easier to obtain. However they can also cause serious harm. But most teens aren’t aware of these dangers. They think that because it isn’t considered a “hard” drug, they will be okay.

If you are interested in learning more, visit “The Partnership at Drug Free” site. There is a wealth of information available, in addition to this kit.

You know the old saying, “Knowledge is power”? Well it still rings true…not only for parents but for teens as well. We need to be discussing these things with our kids and sharing about the dangers of not only street drugs but other types as well.
