Last Minute Frugal Gift Ideas (2)

Still trying to find that perfect last minute gift for someone on your shopping list? Or perhaps you found yourself the recipient of an unexpected gift from a friend, neighbor or co-worker. The frugal side of me says we don’t have to get a gift for every person that buys for us, especially if we wouldn’t normally exchange with that person. However, the practical side of me tells me that I love to give gifts and that I would feel horribly guilty at not getting them at least something.

Here are a few more ideas to keep you from stressing over those last minute gift ideas.

1. Ornaments – These are always a great gift idea. And as the holidays get closer and closer, the sales will start. You can usually pick up a handful of Christmas ornaments for about 30%-60% off the day before Christmas. The selection might be slim, but you are sure to find something pretty that will work.

2. Mugs – There are some really cute designer coffee mugs out there that come in a variety of shapes and sizes, patterns, colors and styles. The other day I was shopping at our grocery store and came across darling mugs that were only $2.99 and they were absolutely adorable. Fill the coffee mug up with a packet of gourmet coffee, hot chocolate, tea or even just candy.

3. Plants – Seems like an odd gift, I know. But if someone on your last minute list enjoys plants, you can get some great deals on plants during the month of December. Why? Because it is considered off season and many of the plants are discounted deeply to make room for the spring arrivals. Plants make great gifts and last a long time.

4. Christmas Decorations or Home décor – A great time to purchase these items is definitely at the last minute. They are usually marked way down to move them fast. You can get some darling items that the recipient will be thankful to have the following year.

5. Baked Goods – While they can sometimes be difficult to do at the last minute, sometimes a plate full of cookies or brownies can be a great gift. You can even purchase an inexpensive plate to put them on and wrap them in saran wrap and tie on a bow. I love getting baked goods for holidays. Just be sure that your recipient has no allergies.
