3 Ways to Learn Yoga on a Budget

Want to learn yoga but don’t want to spend a fortune?

Yoga has been around a long time but has grown in popularity the last decade or so. Yoga studios have opened in most major cities drawing in tons of people. However, these studios can get pricey! With yoga sessions costing over $25!

Having been someone who wanted to learn yoga about eight years ago, I know what it is like to pay those studio prices. With changes in my financial situation, I started to look around for other ways to learn yoga and keep up my yoga skills. I learned that there are other places you can take a yoga class and receive the same benefits as the studios. I have come up with 3 ways that can help you learn yoga on a budget.

1. Community centers

Community centers often offer yoga classes for as little as $5-10 a session
Check out your city’s local community center or even another nearby city. Most community centers will have a resident and non-resident price, both cheaper than yoga studios. They often have morning and evening classes as well as weekend classes too.

2. Community colleges

Check out your local community colleges to see if they offer yoga class. This is a fairly inexpensive way to learn yoga. For example my local community college offers yoga and my total bill was $50 for the term, that is less than $10 a class. This is great option if have a flexible schedule. Most campuses usually offer one or two classes. A class I just finished last week was a 90 minute class every Monday day which was convenient for my schedule. I was able to get in my yoga for the week without having a major time commitment.

3. At home DVD

The cheapest route to take for an introduction to yoga is a beginners yoga DVD. These can be found online such as through amazon or target (for example check out Amazon.com and you can find beginning yoga DVDs for just $8). At home DVDs are an especially great way to get started if you are a busy stay at home mom and don’t have time to drive to a yoga class or want to schedule a babysitter. For example you can easily pop in a DVD for thirty minutes during your child’s nap time!
