Life Should Be Easier, Right?

If I’m a Christian, why is God not answering my prayers? Why is He ignoring me? Why is He piling on more than I can handle. I’m a Christian shouldn’t life be easier? Should it? Why should it?

Yes, the bible tells us in Jesus we have the victory, 1 Corinthian 15:57. The bible tells us our prayers will be answered, Matthew 21:22, Luke 11:9-10, I John 5:14-15. Yes the bible assures us He will guide and lead us and comfort us, Psalm 48:14, Isaiah 48:17, John 10:3-4,2 Corinthians 1:3-4. So, why does it seem at times that this is not the case and that God has left us? Or is at least ignoring us?

Why is this happening to me? I’m sure we’ve all heard these questions or asked them at times.

Even that great man of faith, Job, struggled to find answers when life threw disaster after disaster His way. His friends insisted it was because of his sin. Job resisted this premise. And in the end God commends Job, Job 42:7-8.

The reader knows that Job’s situation came about as a result of a conversation between Satan and God and God was so certain of Job’s righteousness and integrity that he knew Job would not falter in his faith in the hard times. And Job didn’t. Even though at times he regretted his birth and wished to die, throughout he maintained his faith in God despite the fact for a long time God chose not to answer him. Even when God did reveal Himself and speak to Job, it was not to answer the question ‘why did this happen to me?’

Yes, I know what it’s like. I’ve had those days, weeks and months where it hardly feels worth getting up because nothing goes right. Days where life gets worse and more pressures are added. Like Job, I wondered where God is and why he is allowing it to happen.

In the end we need to remember God is God. He obviously understands things we do not. We need to hang in there and keep trusting despite the circumstances, despite how we feel, despite the pressures that come. We may never know God’s purposes in some of the events that happen. So long as God knows.

If we are His, He has not left us alone, for He promises never to leave us, even though at times it may seem that way. If you want assurance on this point look at Deuteronomy 31:6, 8, Matthew 28:20, Hebrews 13:5,

This verse underlined in my bible assures us, ‘the Lord will give strength to his people; The Lord will bless his people with peace,’ Psalm 29:11. Sometimes we may have to wait for that peace. It may be a long dark night that your soul has to pass though, but eventually the dark passes but joy comes in the morning, Psalm 30:5.
