Lilly’s 3 For All – Game Review

Lilly’s 3 For All is a boxed card game for ages 4 to 8 from Gamewright, which won a Best Toy Award from Oppeheim Toy Portfolio. I can see why the game won an award. It’s actually three games in one, which is always a nice bonus. The cards are colorful, and are also extra sturdy and oversized, which makes them great for little fingers. None of the three games requires reading. And it can be hard to find a game that is challenging, but doesn’t involve reading. When you have some children who can read, and some who can’t, it’s hard to find a game they can all have fun playing.

To play the games you need two or three players. The instructions say the games last between 15 and 20 minutes, but ours were always closer to 5 or 10 minutes. Each card is bordered by a bright color, which doubles as the card’s suit. Each card has two pictures on it, marvelous pictures from the illustrations from Kevin Henke books – Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse, Chester’s Way, and Julius, The Baby of the World. All three are very enjoyable books. Kevin Henkes seems to really remember what it’s like to be a child. The kids love to recognize Lilly’s plastic purse, the plate of cookies, the red cowboy boots, and baby Julius.

The three games are each progressively a little bit harder. They involve matching, and deciding which move will match the most cards. This teaches young kids strategy and problem solving. Score keeping is easy, a simple matter of counting the cards. The child who gets the most cards and matches wins. A child could also play this by themselves by using the cards like dominoes and matching the pictures on the end.

Lilly’s 3 For All is a fun game. Your kids can learn matching, sorting and counting as they have fun.
