Locks of Love… and Hate

left

When was the last time you had a great hair day?

Did you document your perfect do for posterity sake?

Good hair days are an extremely rare occurrence in my life. In fact, I didn’t even like my tresses on my wedding day. I neglected to schedule a styling dry run prior to the big day and it showed. Needless to say, I have plenty of scrapbook layouts featuring photos of me with hair styles that I absolutely hate.

Conversely, my young daughter barely has a day where a single strand of her hair is out of place. It’s just one of the perks of sporting a super short do. Personally, I love her no-maintenance mane. Sadly, though, things are about to change in the hair department at Casa de Cheplic. My 7-year-old has decided to grow out her hair.

This is a huge milestone in our home as little Miss I-hate-hair has begged to go bald for years. I’m not sure what inspired the change of heart, but I’m going to go with it even though I am dreading the post-shampoo combing and having to get up extra early to tame her tresses before school.

In fact, to show my support for her new do (in the making) I am planning to create a double page scrapbook layout documenting the growth.

Call it a hair timeline. My plan is to take a picture of my daughter’s do on the first day of the month for as many months as it takes to get her mane to the desired length. In addition, I’m planning to invest in hair-themed embellishments, such as stickers, stamps and die cuts in a variety of shapes, including barrettes, bobby pins, ribbons and hair gel.

The last time I crafted a hair-themed page design was shortly after my daughter’s first hair cut. I took plenty of pictures of that event and displayed the shots prominently on the layout. I also placed a lock of my daughter’s super fine baby hair in a clear plastic envelope and adhered it to the page. Finally, I crafted a border with comb- and scissor-shaped stickers.
