The leaves are already turning from green to gold, crimson and burnt sienna in my neck of the woods. While autumn doesn’t officially arrive until Saturday morning, it’s not too early to start thinking about page designs for fall-themed scrapbooks.
The season brings with it a slew of amazing events to scrap, from major holidays, such as Halloween and Thanksgiving to everyday moments like leaf raking, apple picking and nature walks. With so many memorable moments to choose from it may be easier to focus on a single element. For example, if your family has a tradition of visiting a u-pick apple orchard during the fall, you could create an entire memory book from a single trip.
Fortunately, there is a virtually limitless variety of scrapbooking materials you can use to promote your theme. Apple theme scrapbook paper is widely available at craft stores nationwide. In addition, you could pair the printed paper with red and white checkered paper to complement your layout. Another way to spice up an apple-themed layout is to cut sections of scrap cardstock, and then glue them on the page to form a patchwork quilt-type design. For a simpler look, cut an apple in half and dip it in ink or paint, then press it onto your page to create a unique stamp. You could also glue real apple seeds to the page as a border or connect them to form a frame around a photo of your child bobbing for apples.
If you are pressed for time, go online for inspiration. The Internet is filled with apple-themed clip art which you can print and add to your layouts. While you are browsing online, look for apple buttons or small fabric appliques that you can use to embellish your pages. Finally, dig around in junk drawers or old jewelry boxes for apple-shaped charms which you can adhere to layouts for some added bling.
