Lost Siblings Reunite After 65 Years Apart

Two long lost siblings have finally been reunited with each other, just in time for the holiday season this year. The American Red Cross was instrumental in helping this brother and sister to find each other after all these years apart. One can only imagine how much they have to talk about, and to share with each other.

The holidays are a time when families come together, to reconnect, to share the spirit of the Christmas season, and to catch up with what has been going on in each other’s lives. There are a lot of families who don’t get together, in one big group, except for once a year, at Christmas or Thanksgiving. These reunions can be very emotional, especially if anyone has been severely ill, or has been absent from the family for more than a year. Think about all the things you would want to share with a sibling you have not seen for several decades. I’m sure there would be a lot of questions that you would want to ask.

Elfrieda Nixon and her younger brother, Arnold, were separated during World War II, in the month’s right before the war came to an end. A decade later, Elfrieda had gotten married to an American man, and this was when she moved from Germany to the United States. She had completely lost touch with her family by then, and remained out of touch until recently, when the Red Cross found her brother Arnold. They located where he lived, what street, and even what house.

The two siblings were reunited after more than 65 years apart. This year, 2010, was the first holiday season that they were able to spend time together, and catch up with each other. Both were very anxious to see each other again. It turned out that Arnold was doing well, and was married. Elfrieda was able to ask Arnold some questions she had regarding the death of their mother. The two have made plans to spend time together again in the coming year, when Elfrieda will travel to visit Arnold in Germany.
