It is not uncommon to have moments in your life when you are in a pivotal situation. The choice to believe the gospel and to live its principles is one of those moments. You may make the choice once in your life or you may come to crossroads at a few different times in your life.
I was born into an LDS family and grew up a member of the church, but there was a conscious point where I decided to embrace the gospel and make it a part of my life. Leading up to my decision, I investigated other churches. I stopped attending church with my family for over a year. I truly made the choice myself.
Since that time my testimony has grown much stronger. I know that the Lord loves me, as He loves each of His children. I know that Christ is my Savior, and without Him we could not return to live with Heavenly Father. I am grateful for my testimony of these essential principles. As I have lived the commandments, I have found that they are not restrictions that hold me back from being happy and enjoying life. Rather the commandments help me to avoid the mistakes that bring true unhappiness in my life.
There are times that I struggle with feeling inadequate or unsure of myself. I do feel that I could do more, and be better. But I have also realized that I can only focus on a few things at a time. The rest I leave up to the grace of God. I know that He is there watching over me and helping me as I face my struggles. I have realized that the harder I fight against His will, the more down I become. If I acknowledge His hand in my life and turn my problems over to Him, I am better able to deal with them. I feel as though my load has been lightened, even though I may continue to struggle in that area.
I am grateful for the experiences in my life that have brought me closer to the Lord. These are often times of trial, but it helps me to realize that I am not alone. The Lord is there, and He sends others to help as well. I know that I need to continually work on building my relationship with the Lord through scripture study and prayer. As I do this I have a greater peace and contentment in my life.
