I recently did a layout of my daughter. The instant I saw the picture I was going to use, I knew my title, and what my journaling would say. This particular picture is of my daughter a couple of months before she turned 3. She had this look on her face that just made me ache inside with the realization that she was getting to be a “big girl”. I wanted to convey those feelings onto the layout so that one day, she could look at this page and know how I felt in that moment.
My title was, “That Look”. The journaling reads:
That look on your face just kills me.
It screams, “I’ll be a teenager before you know it.”
It says, “I’m growing up way too fast, Mom and you can’t stop me!”
As a Mother, it makes me want to cry.
To see my baby girl become a toddler, and now you’re a little girl.
Before I know it, you’ll be grown and out of my hands.
If only you would stop growing!
I love you way too much.
I’m not ready for….
The dot, dot, dot, takes the reader back to the title, “That Look”.
It’s sometimes hard to capture exactly what you feel about a photo. Some pages you create, you may not “feel” anything. But, the ones that do make you so happy, or make your heart ache, are the ones that you should focus on making your journaling meaningful. Those will be the pages that you cherish forever. I don’t know if there is an easy way to “teach” someone how to have meaningful journaling, but if you dig deep, and write what your heart feels, you are bound to have journaling that will convey to the observer what you felt when you saw that photograph.
