Making Your Bathroom into a Spa Retreat

Everyone needs a soothing place in the home to relax, unwind, and pamper him or herself. Transforming your bathroom into a spa like setting will have you soaking away the tension and feeling like a new person in no time.

If your decorating budget is tight, cut corners in other spaces so you can go all out for your spa retreat. Luxury is essential to creating the perfect spa atmosphere, and you are well worth it.

Start with a soft soothing color. The palest sage green or soft, pastel sunset colors will help you begin to relax instantly. Choose yards and yards of rich fabric, deep pile carpets or rugs, lush towels, and scented oils and soaps.

Next, surround the bath with gorgeous candles. Turn off the lights and relax by candlelight when you spend time in your retreat. It is best to choose candles in the same or similar scents, so they are soothing rather than overpowering. Alternatively, you can choose two complementary scents such as a soft vanilla and a spicy fragrance.

You can add jets to your bath without installing a Jacuzzi tub. There are portable water jet machines available that can be placed into any tub to achieve the same effect, for a fraction of the cost.

Another important element is music. If you aren’t exactly handy, you may not want to attempt installing wall speakers, but you can certainly bring a simple sound system into the space. Make sure it is far enough away from water sources to avoid injury, and make sure it is plugged into a safety outlet.

Remember those old Calgon commercials, where the frazzled woman falls into a tub filled with Calgon, and all her troubles melt away? You too can get away from it all, right in your very own spa bathroom.
