March Comes in Like a Lion

I’m posting this now, since I could not keep an internet connection very well this morning due to the weather. In fact, I awoke to a tornado warning first thing this morning. Ah, it brings me back to just a few months ago when another day started out that way and my husband and I almost drove right into a tornado. We seem to get our share of wicked weather around here!

I haven’t even gotten around to telling you about the new car (well, it’s a crossover) that we bought yesterday. Good thing the dealer put gas in it, since I’ve been running around all morning dodging storms. My poor car has already been through its first hail storm! We took a quick trip to Wal-Mart, arriving about 6:45 this morning, to get out of the way of any tornadoes, straight line winds, and other “exciting” weather phenomenon.

We rarely used to leave home, despite not having a basement, until last year a tornado took out our neighbor’s place. Thankfully, no one was at home, and even their dog was rescued, but their home was destroyed. When I say “neighbor,” that means country neighbor, but they still don’t live too far from us. They’re two houses away on the other side of the road. In suburban terms, that’s around half an average size block away or about 5 houses down.

So, we went to Wal-Mart and waited out the tornado warning, which had by then become one on a list of several. The sky toward our house looked pretty good, so I loaded up the kids and headed back this way. Why does this stuff seem to happen when my husband isn’t here?

Since I decided to drive my kids to school, I stopped at home to run in to get some things I would need in town. Another storm was already brewing. We got to the end of our road (about 1 mile from our house) and the wind was wild and quarter size hail began smashing into the body and windshield of my new car. Worse yet, it was starting to scare my girls (and me!). Thankfully, it blew over pretty quickly.

I dropped my girls off at school, ran my errands, and came home. I was worn out and it was only 10:00 a.m. Now that my heart has stopped pounding, I’m going to get some work done… if I can keep my internet connection.

Rain, rain, GO AWAY!!!
