Marker and Pen Storage and Organization

Markers, pens, colored pencils, gel pens and all types of writing materials are used in scrapbooking. They are sometimes used for journaling, doodling, drawing, coloring or other techniques. So when you are faced with so many different writing tools, how and where do you store them?

A small piece of advice: Always store your markers and pens horizontally and not vertically. When a marker or pen is stored vertically it causes all the ink to collect at one end of the pen. Storing them horizontally is always a better option as it keeps the ink more evenly distributed.

Here are a few marker storage suggestions from some of my best scrapbooking girlfriends.

Drawers work really well for horizontal storage. You can even keep your markers or pens in their original cases or packages and just slip them into a drawer.

Clear plastic shoe boxes or other clear containers. These work great because 1) the ink is in the horizontal position and 2) you can see into the container to see what’s there. For a cheap, non see through alternative, try using baby wipe containers or children’s pencil boxes that can stack and then you can label the outside.

A few other items that make marker/pen storage easier:

silverware trays

baskets

boxes

I use the pen caddy that came inside one of my scrapbooking totes to store mine. I just slip them into the rubber band, and then I roll it up and it can store horizontally. I just pull it out when I want to use them and lay them out on my scrapbook table. I love the ease and they are easy to store this way.
