Michelle Williams Copes with Loss

Somehow, some way, actress Michelle Williams has avoided the paparazzi since returning to New York following the death of her ex-fiancé Heath Ledger. By all accounts she did not fly to Los Angeles this past weekend for Ledger’s private memorial and word has it she will not be in Perth, Australia for the actor’s burial either. (Then again, how does anyone really know what her plans are?)

The one thing that is certain about Williams’ future is that she still has a movie role waiting for her when she is ready to go back to work.

According to production staff on Williams’s next movie “Blue Valentine,” the film has been officially put on hold while the actress copes with the death of her daughter’s father.

“We will hold off until she is ready,” producers told news reporters yesterday. “The production is in the process of sorting it out in respect to her.”

“Blue Valentine” reportedly tells the tale of a young couple struggling with their marriage. The relationship drama stars Ryan Gosling and Williams, who according to gossip magazines, were reportedly dating in real life. Apparently the couple was spotted strolling through the streets of New York before the holidays and some rags deemed them a “couple.”

The new movie was set to start filming on February 25th, but officials associated with the flick say since Ledger’s untimely death it has been moved back to an indefinite date.

“We’re hoping she will still come back and do the film and are happy to wait,” sources with the movie say. “The film is tailor made for those two so of course we would want to wait. You can’t get much better than them.”

Incidentally (and perhaps coincidently) Williams had just finished shooting her last scene in the film “Mammoth” in Sweden when she received the news of Ledger’s death. Within 24 hours she and the couple’s 2-year-old daughter Matilda flew back to New York, and presumably prior to his body being shipped to L.A., had the chance to bid farewell to Ledger.

I can’t imagine the incredible anguish this poor woman is dealing with. I realize that we may never know what the nature of her relationship was with Ledger post split, but facts are facts: She and Ledger shared a child, they lived together for 3 years, and they had only been apart for four months. You have to figure his death was incredibly devastating to her despite the fact that they seemed to be moving on with their lives.

On a side note, whoever is helping shield Williams and her daughter from the press is doing a heck of a job.
