Missing School Days

I am so proud of Jessie. She is doing well in school. The reports from the teachers, counselor, and office staff are all glowing.

Jessie is loving school too. Spring break was a difficult adjustment because she didn’t understand not going to school. She missed her teachers and her friends. I am beyond happy that she loves school. I hope it lasts. If she loves and enjoys school, she’ll be more likely to take it seriously and strive to do well. I don’t want my children to be underachievers like I was.

When Jessie first started school I decided that I was not going to let the half-day every day schedule deter me from the things that I need to do. My moms’ group has luncheons that start when Jessie’s just getting out of school. I do not want to miss out on these opportunities to meet with other moms and learn something in the process. Since I can’t be two places at once, Jessie has to come with me.

Now I feel bad when Jessie has to miss school. I wrote a note about her absence for the office and listed the days she’ll have to miss because of schedule conflicts. It turns out that just about every Friday in April and one Thursday. This is excessive, but I don’t have anyone I can impose on that much. Two of the missed days are for doctor appointments, one for a luncheon, and one to go to the zoo. Our neighbor picked her up when I had to take Baby E to her first DOC Band appointment, but she didn’t have to keep Jessie long. I think I’ll talk to the neighbor who watched E when Jessie swallowed the quarter. Then at least Jessie would have friends to play with until I got back.
